Discover and follow feeds
Discover is the catalog of feeds Readsira already fetches: sites, newsletters, podcasts and YouTube channels, grouped by topic, with their language, country and how often they post. You do not need to know a feed's address to follow it. Open Discover in the sidebar (the compass, after Feeds) or on a phone from the bottom tabs.
Find feeds
- Home. Discover opens with For you (each card says why it was suggested: one of your languages, a project, curators you follow, or a feed you already follow), Popular this week (most followed on Readsira), Trending (fastest growing over 7 days), the topics and the starter packs.
- Topics. A topic page lists its feeds with three sorts: Popular, Most active and Newest on Readsira. Narrow it by sub-topic, language and country. Latest from this topic shows the newest posts across its feeds.
- Search. Search by name, topic or site. The language filter starts with the languages you read; the country filter and the type (all, sites, newsletters, podcasts, YouTube) narrow it further. If nothing matches, try Search all languages.
- Paste an address. Paste a site's address into the search field and Readsira looks for its
feeds (the feed links in the page, then the usual addresses such as
/feedor/rss.xml). If the site has no feed, you can save the page as a bookmark instead. You can also paste a feed's own address directly.
You can save a search to find it again in the sidebar.
Preview a feed
Select a feed to open its preview: who publishes it, what it covers, posts per week, Readsira readers, language and the year it was first seen, then its latest 10 posts. The preview works for every catalog feed, including ones nobody on Readsira follows yet. Open site opens the publisher's site and Copy feed URL copies the feed address.
Follow
Follow asks three things:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Folder | The folder the feed goes into. Readsira suggests the folder where you follow similar feeds; you can also create a new one. |
| Show in Inbox | New posts also appear in your Inbox. Leave it off for busy feeds. |
| Notifications | Off, a daily summary, or every post. |
After you follow, a confirmation offers Undo. In Feeds, a feed you followed from Discover shows where it came from ("From Discover" and the topic). The Following menu on a feed lets you move it to another folder, change notifications or Inbox, or unfollow it.
Starter packs
A starter pack is a curated set of feeds for a topic, for example a country's daily news. Open a pack to see its feeds, untick the ones you do not want and follow the rest into a new folder named after the pack. The follow runs in the background, so you can leave the page. When it finishes you see what was followed, what you already followed, and what was skipped because the feed has stopped posting. Undo (for 10 minutes) unfollows exactly the feeds that pack added.
How many feeds you can follow
Each plan includes a number of feeds; see Plan limits. When you reach yours, Discover shows the feeds you have not opened in 90 days so you can unfollow one and continue, or move to a plan with more feeds. Nothing is followed past the limit.
Share a topic or a feed
Topics and feeds also have public pages on readsira.com, for example
readsira.com/discover/technology or the list of all topics at readsira.com/discover. Anyone
can open them without an account: they show the same feeds and latest posts, and
Follow on Readsira asks a visitor to create a free account first. Signed in, Discover opens in
the app at app.readsira.com/discover.
For developers
Feeds you follow from Discover are ordinary subscriptions: the API lists
them with the read:feeds scope like any other feed.
