Import a CSV or JSON file
For a service without its own guide, or a list of links you put together yourself, Readsira accepts any CSV or JSON file in the shapes below. Open the Import page, drop the file, and Readsira detects it as a CSV or JSON file when no named source matches.
CSV
The first row is the header. Column names are matched without regard to case or surrounding spaces. The file can be separated by commas, or by semicolons when the header row has semicolons and no commas (the format some spreadsheet apps save in). The only required column is the link; everything else is optional.
| Column (any of these names) | In Readsira |
|---|---|
url, link, href, uri | The saved item's link (required) |
title, name | The item's title |
tags, labels | Tags, separated by , or | |
note, notes | Your personal note on the item |
description, excerpt | The item's description |
folder, collection | A collection; Dev/Go makes Go inside Dev |
created, date, created_at, added | The item's saved date |
favorite, starred | Starred when the value is true, 1 or yes |
Dates can be ISO 8601 (2024-05-01T10:00:00Z), 2024-05-01 10:00:00 or a Unix timestamp in
seconds or milliseconds.
A plain list of links
A file with just links works in either of these shapes, saved as .csv or .txt:
-
One column with a header. The header is
url,link,href,urioraddress, in any case:urlhttps://example.com/an-articlehttps://example.org/another-one -
One link per line, no header. The file's first line must be a full
http://orhttps://link:https://example.com/an-articlehttps://example.org/another-one
In both shapes blank lines and spaces around a link are ignored, and a UTF-8 byte order mark or
Windows line endings make no difference. A link that contains a comma must be wrapped in double
quotes ("https://example.com/a,b"), as in any CSV. A line that is not a valid link is listed as
a failed item in the import's report instead of stopping the import, and a file with only a
header row imports nothing.
JSON
A JSON file whose start contains a "url", "href", "link" or "uri" field. The list of
bookmarks can be the whole file ([ {...}, {...} ]) or sit under bookmarks, items, links
or data. Pinboard's JSON export has this shape.
| Field | In Readsira |
|---|---|
link, href, url, uri | The saved item's link |
title (else description, name) | The item's title |
excerpt, extended | The item's description |
note | Your personal note on the item |
tags, tag | Tags: a list of names, or one string separated by spaces or commas |
created, time, dt, created_at | The item's saved date |
favorite, important, starred | Starred |
JSON files have no folders: everything goes into the import's collection.
What does not come across
Any other column or field, highlights, and read or archived state: every item from a CSV or JSON file goes to your Inbox.
Duplicates, undo and size limits work the same for every source: see Import your library.
