Import from Omnivore
Omnivore's cloud service ended in November 2024. If you exported your library before then, Readsira imports the whole export, including the article text Omnivore stored.
Which file to upload
The export ZIP, exactly as Omnivore produced it. Do not unpack it: Readsira needs the files inside together.
metadata_*.json: the list of your items (required; Readsira reads every one of these files).content/<slug>.html: the readable article text of each item.highlights/<slug>.md: your highlights and their notes.
The files may sit inside one top-level folder of the ZIP; that is fine. Then open the Import page in Readsira, choose Omnivore and drop the ZIP.
What comes across
| In Omnivore | In Readsira |
|---|---|
| Link and title | The saved item |
| Description | The item's description |
| Labels | Tags |
| Saved date | The item's saved date |
| Archived items | Archived |
| Reading progress | Kept; items read 95% or more are marked done |
| Highlights, with the note under each | Highlights on the item, with their notes |
Article text (content/) | The article text in Readsira: the page is not fetched again |
Items you had deleted in Omnivore are left out. Because the article text comes from the export, items whose original page has since disappeared are still readable and searchable.
What does not
- Favourites and folders: Omnivore's export has neither.
- Highlight colours and dates: the highlight files do not carry them; highlights get the default colour.
Duplicates, undo and size limits work the same for every source: see Import your library. An Omnivore ZIP with article text can be large; Pro and Research accept bigger files than Free.
