Import browser bookmarks
Every major browser exports its bookmarks as one HTML file in the same format. Readsira imports it with the whole folder tree.
Get your export
Menu names differ a little between versions; look for "Export bookmarks" in the bookmark manager.
- Chrome: open the bookmark manager, open its menu (the three dots) and choose Export bookmarks.
- Firefox: open the bookmarks Library (Manage bookmarks), then Import and Backup, Export Bookmarks to HTML.
- Safari (Mac): File, Export, Bookmarks.
- Edge: open the favourites manager, open its menu and choose Export favorites.
Save the file (usually bookmarks.html or favorites.html).
Which file to upload
The HTML file. It starts with <!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1>. Then open the Import
page in Readsira, choose Browser bookmarks and drop the file.
What comes across
| In the bookmarks file | In Readsira |
|---|---|
| Link and title | The saved item |
| Folders, nested | Collections, nested the same way |
| Top folders ("Bookmarks bar", "Other bookmarks") | Collections with the same names |
| Date added | The item's saved date |
| Tags (Firefox) | Tags |
| Description, when the file has one | The item's description |
All items go to your Inbox: bookmarks have no read state.
What does not
- Favicons and separators: not imported.
- Starred or read state: browsers do not have them.
Duplicates, undo and size limits work the same for every source: see Import your library.
